Dissemination of Research
My research on literacy, poverty, and marketplace behaviors is disseminated in a number of ways including a non-profit organization that I founded and direct, the Marketplace Literacy Project (www.marketplaceliteracy.org).
Consumer
and Entrepreneurial Literacy Training Program in India (powerpoint)
This educational program is unique in its emphasis on generic consumer and entrepreneurial literacy for an audience that we assume cannot read or write. Despite difficulties that low-literate individuals may have with abstractions, our approach emphasizes marketplace concepts such as value and customer orientation by relating them back to the lived experiences of participants. Through such an approach, we attempt to enable lifelong learning. Whereas microfinancing and vocational literacy have been emphasized in recent decades, our emphasis supplements these very important efforts in the economic realm and addresses a central need.
A book based on this work is being published by Springer.
