The College of Business will review the applications of all admitted freshmen for admission to the Honors Program. The College of Business is looking for a diverse class of honors students by looking for students of intellectual and leadership promise who have demonstrated qualities of mind and character that will enable them to take full advantage of the College of Business curriculum. The College seeks diverse qualified applicants—students whose several perspectives will contribute significantly to a process of mutual education within and beyond the curriculum. Our selection from among many qualified applicants will focus on those possessing the intellectual talent, academic discipline, leadership potential, and imagination to most fully benefit from the curriculum and contribute to the life of the college. Grades, standardized test scores, essays, the quality of your secondary school program and achievements outside the classroom are among the factors used to evaluate each individual applicant’s potential, but no one of these standards will determine selection for the honors program--the intersection of the standards will guide our decisions. We seek students who are strongly motivated not only to excel but also to make a difference in the College of Business.
The privilege of being named to the College of Business Honors Program brings responsibilities. Honors students are expected to participate in the program’s activities, to maintain the required grade-point average, and to act honorably and constructively. Honors students are expected to make steady progress in completing course requirements and co-curricular activities. Honors students are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better. If there are extenuating circumstances which impede students from making progress toward degree and meeting the GPA requirement, the student must confer with the assistant dean for honors and work out an alternative plan for completing the required curricular and program activities.
Honors program students must conduct themselves lawfully and responsibly, in full compliance with the UIUC Code of Policies and Regulations Applying to All Students and the laws of the United States, and the State and municipalities of Illinois. Dishonesty or abuse of honors program privileges will also constitute grounds for dismissal from the program. Students who are dropped from the CHP for conduct may appeal in writing to the College of Business Honors Advisory Committee, which will make a recommendation to the Assistant Dean.
Students invited to join the College of Business Honors Program may also participate in the Campus Honors Program, which provides a systematic program of instruction at the campus level, and the James Scholar Program, which involves maintaining a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 each semester and the successful completion of one honors activity per academic year.
The College of Business Honors Program is designed to supplement academic requirements of the College’s three departments: accountancy, business administration, and finance. Students in the Honors program must complete all university and college degree requirements.
Yes, students may withdraw from the program at any time. Students are required to notify the Assistant Dean for Honors in writing and may be asked to come in for an exit interview. If an honors student has a College of Business scholarship that is dependent on participation in the Honors Program, the scholarship will be withdrawn at the time of the student’s withdrawal from the program.

Yes. College of Business students have 9
semesters to finish their degrees. The Honors program will work
with students to accommodate planning for such opportunities. Generally,
scholarships are available to students for 8 semesters.
The assistant dean for honors will serve as the primary undergraduate advisor for honors students. Students will also work with advisors in their College of Business departments.
Honors students get priority for merit scholarships offered by the College of Business to incoming freshmen. The College offers approximately $200,000 of merit scholarships for new freshmen. Honors students with demonstrated financial need should apply for financial aid with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
It costs nothing to participate in the College of Business Honors Program. Students will be asked to use a portion of scholarships received for costs of any international programs.
Students must apply for admission to the University of Illinois College of Business because admission to the College of Business is a prerequisite for admission to the College of Business Honors Program. Students do not have to complete a separate application for the College of Business Honors Program. All students admitted to the College of Business will be considered for the forty spaces in the freshman class of the Honors Program.
