Program for Academic Success

The Program for Academic Success is designed with one goal in mind - to ensure that each student enrolled in the College of Business earns an undergraduate degree from the College of Business. We recognize that some students will change their majors during their academic journey and will decide to transfer out of the College to pursue their true passion. The Program for Academic Success centers on students who are committed to earning an Illinois business degree and are in need of assistance along the way to ensure that this goal is achieved. In addition to an assortment of academic advising initiatives, The Program for Academic Success consists of two components: 1) The Business Tutorial Center; and 2) The Business Leaders Seminar (Business 199).

This 1-credit seminar introduces College of Business freshmen to the realities of college life and the understanding that utilizing winning strategies will promote a successful transition into college and beyond. The course begins with discussing the various aspects of college culture and how students identify themselves within their new college environment. Students will discover their personal value as well as the benefit of interacting with others in a diverse college community. The course continues by expanding on the concept of a successful transition from high school to college by introducing best practice skills and strategies. The course will conclude with an exploration of personal passions and how such passions relate to becoming successful leaders. While students are invited to participate in this course, a limited number of spaces are available.
