1. What is the name of your organization?
Latino Association for Business Students

2. What is the "mission statement" or purpose of your organization?
The purpose of the Latino Association for Business Students ("LABS") at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is to serve as a centralized unit where students can seek experienced academic consultation and career orientation. LABS represents the Latino community within the College of Business. In LABS, Latino business students can focus on their specific needs: corporate representation, development workshops, career conferences, and special events. It also provides members with benefits such as networking potential, access to test/academic devices, inclusion in a resume book, and the opportunity to interact with other student organizations and faculty at the University of Illinois. Finally, LABS provides a support system for Latino students in the College of Business.

4. What is the demographic makeup of your organization?
a. 90% Business Majors, 10% Non-business or pre-business
b. Accounting, Business Admin, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Marketing, and IST.
c. Of all class

5. When was your organization established at the University of Illinois?
1994

6. Please describe some of the major events/initiatives of your organization.
Every year our organization attends the National Hispanic Business Association Conference. In the year of 2007 our chapter hosted this conference in Chicago. Last year the conference took place in Las Vegas, and our members represented the U of I and had the biggest showing of all Big Ten schools.

7. Please describe the type of student you are interested in attracting.
We are interested in attracted all students that have business majors or are interested in the field. Although we may be a "Latino" based organization we are open to all.

8. When does your Executive Board turn over?
Fall of each year. November. Consists of one full year tenure.

9. Who is the Faculty/Staff advisor for your organization?

11. Is your organization open to any business student or is it selective?
Yes, LABS is open to all business students or those interested in the field.

12. Please list a "success story" of your organization.
In the fall of 2007 our organization, which represented the University of IL as a whole, hosted the National Hispanic Business Association Conference. This event took place in Chicago to accommodate schools from around the country. Schools from the Big Ten Conference and other regions such as Harvard or Yale were present as well. The organization gained great recognition from employers and NHBA as a whole. We managed to put together a successful conference and at the same time help the members of LABS network with Businesses and current students. Some members gain valuable leadership experience and were able to land successful internships with various fortune 500 companies.
