CIBER
program funded for four more years
The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)
has been funded for an additional four years and at a higher level
of support. The US Department of Education made the announcement
in early May.

With the rise of information technology, big accounting firms branched
into "client services" particularly internal financial
consulting that soon brought in more revenues than audits.
Andrew Bailey, Ernst & Young professor of accountancy, commented
that this change paved the way for the systemic improprieties exposed

Kimberly-Clark
and IDM host case study competition
Tackling a real-life problem faced by Kimberly-Clark, the global
consumer-products company, was the challenge to ten teams of Industrial
Distribution Management students. Presenting their solutions to
KC staff and college faculty was the second phase of the competition,

protein and consumer acceptance
Customers worldwide are leery of unfamiliar foods. How do you introduce

Giertz
comments on state budget situation
Economist
J. Fred Giertz says that Illinois' govenor and state legislators
should agree to a temporary income-tax hike until the current budget
crisis passes. In a paper published by the Institute of Government
and Public Affairs, he says a temporary increase in the income-tax
rate is "a simple and efficient way" to close the budget
gap.

Accountancy graduate develops website for displaced workers
A alumnus of the college, laid-off from Andersen earlier this year,
has developed a website for other displaced workers to help them
get in touch with former coworkers and to provide a venue for information

Commerce Council members raise funds for university
police
Campus police have two new cruiser-based video cameras at their
disposal due, in part, to members of the college's Commerce Council.
The students helped raise funds along with several other organizations.

New
student orientation
June marks the beginning of new student orientation. The college
will welcome members of the class of 2006 throughout the summer.
New alumni welcome reception and fundraiser
scheduled for June 1
You are cordially invited to join fellow CBA Young Alumni for an
"almost free" happy hour at Durkin's on Halsted and Diversey
in Chicago, Saturday, June 1st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This happy
hour is being combined with a fundraising event for the Infant Welfare
