New office established to study private equity industry
The Office for the Study of Private Equity and Entrepreneurial Finance
under the direction Michael Weisbach was announced this month. The office
will develop curriculum and programs to prepare young professionals to
work in the private equity industry and will sponsor research to expand
and enhance scholarship.

executives present challenge to MBA class
Several executives from General Motors and Auto-by-Tel presented a case
study to a first-year MBA class earlier this month. The special seminar

of future use, not satisfaction, drives consumer choices
Customer preferences are based less on satisfaction with a service than
with the expected future use of that service according to a survey conducted
by Tiffany Barnett White, a faculty member in Business Administration.

Indicator remains constant
The University of Illinois Flash Index of Economic Growth remained constant
in February at 97.0, which indicates that the recession is not yet over
in Illinois according to Index creator J. Fred Giertz.

Margolis to Present Annual Cozad Lecture
Chairman and CEO of The TriZetto Group, Inc., Jeff Margolis will present
the 2002 V. Dale Cozad Lecture in Entrepreneurship in 141 Wohlers Hall
at 5.p.m. on April 9. The public is invited to hear Margolis speak on
"Transforming Fundamentals into Innovation." Reservations are
requested.

Simon Memorial Dedication Symposium
The College of Commerce and Business Administration is hosting a symposium
on April 24, 2002, that acknowledges the wisdom and contributions to society
of the late Julian Simon, an internationally renowned economist and longtime
U of I faculty member. The Julian Simon Memorial Dedication Symposium
will feature speakers from across the nation, a luncheon and keynote address,
and dedication ceremony and reception. The dedication will also acknowledge
creation of the Julian Simon Memorial Faculty Scholar Endowment, which
will support a junior faculty
member in the college.
