Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What if I cannot attend a rush event?
A. It is important that you attempt to be present at all stages of rush. However, if you cannot, please feel free to contact Rachael Emke (remke2@illinois.edu) or Dipti Agarwal (dagarw2@illinois.edu).
Q. What if I do not have the appropriate dress attire?
A. Information Night and First Stage both require business casual dress. Business casual dress does not include jeans or suits; it is in between the two. Typical business casual dress is what you would see people wearing in a typical corporate environment. Kakis or dress pants with a polo shirt, button down shirt, or dress blouse are acceptable. Second Stage is in a casual setting and jeans or shorts are allowed. However, Third Stage is professional and thus, requires professional attire. Please wear a suit, borrow a suit, or dress in something comparable such as a shirt and tie.
Q. Is it okay to rush other business fraternities?
A. Sure! Phi Chi Theta encourages you to explore all opportunities within the business school, including the three other business fraternities. Evaluating the numerous options available will allow you to choose the organization that you feel the most pride and comfort being a member of.
Q. What if I know someone already in Phi Chi Theta?
A. This is neither an advantage nor disadvantage to you. Feel free to speak with all actives at all times, especially the members that you have never met.
Q. What do we do in Phi Chi Theta?
A. As a pledge, you will be exposed to a variety of different situations. Such activities include professional events, social outings, sporting events (including intramurals), philanthropy events, resume workshops, and many more. It is through these opportunities that a member can further improve on his/her abilities, both professionally and socially.
Q. Would I be able to join Phi Chi Theta considering the fact that I am in a social fraternity or sorority?
A. Yes! Phi Chi Theta currently has a healthy mix of members who belong to other Greek organizations and those who do not. Regardless of the situation you find yourself in, it is important to realize that PCT is a time commitment that cannot be overlooked. PCT events are not something you have to go to; they are something you will WANT to go to.
Q. If I am invited as a pledge into Phi Chi Theta, what type of time commitment is involved?
A. You are required to attend chapter meetings on Monday's beginning at 8:00 PM and pledge meetings immediately following. They generally end between 9:00-9:30 PM depending on whether it is a week with a corporate presentation. In addition, there will usually be at least one or two other commitments during the week.
