The final exam will be administered in 317 DKH (the regular class-room) on Tuesday, March 11, 1999 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The final will be closed book, no notes, no use of text-storing calculator functions.
Office hours for the rest of the semester are
as follows:
Friday, May 7:         9-12 a.m.
Monday, May 10:   9-12 a.m. and 2-5 p.m.
Office hours for Tuesday May 3 are cancelled.
If you are not happy with the self-evaluation conducted in class on Tue, May 3 feel free to fill out the self-evaluation forms and turn them in at the final. The self-evaluation should reflect your assessment of your particiption for the second half of the semester only. I will use the forms turned in at the final rather than the May 3 responses where available.
There are a number of practice problems linked to the course home page in the section headed "More Goodies". Click here to go to Practice Problems now.
There will be seven problems on the exam.
Topics are as follows (yes I know there are seven questions but only
six topics -- this is not an error):
The mid-term exam will be an in-class exam on next Tuesday, March 2, 1999. Your self-evaluation forms are due then (the self-evaluation form is also linked to the schedule of work for March 2. It should now work with MS Word. Please inform me if it does not.)
There are number of practice problems linked to the course home page in the section headed "More Goodies". For the mid-term you should review practice problems 1 thru 9, 11 and 12. We shall NOT cover the topic of Sales Variances and therefore it is not necessary for you to review problem 10. Click here to go to Practice Problems now.
The exam has five questions.
Question 1: Cost estimation - regression (a make or buy decision)
Question 2: Production cost variances (compute all 11 variances)
Question 3: Manufacturing Costs and Accounts
Question 4: Cost-volume-profit - minimum SP
Question 5: Identifying relevant costs and revenues
The bonus question will examine your understanding of "Learning with
Cases."
2/4 The Burd and Fletcher and Cenex cases are now due at the beginning of class on Tuesday 2/8. We will follow the syllabus in all other matters. Check your e-mail for futher details.
1/28 We will discuss the Prestige Telephone Company case. You can make your own spreadsheet or use mine as a starting point. Here is a sample memo I wrote last semester when my students wanted me to write one and submit it for grading. I'm not saying it will get you a 10 out of 10 (there are some rough patches in the opening paragraph that I'd like to polish some more) but, it should give you some ideas for organization, flow, language and personalizing the communication with the decision maker. Two copies of the memo and all supporting computations, in good form, typed etc. and stapled (see the guidelines elsewhere on the website) are due at the beginning of class. There is no powerpoint file for Thursday.
Due to significant changes in the class roster, I redid groups after class on Tuesday (1/26). Please check the revised groups here. Also, this is a good time for you to make sure that your background probe, personal information sheet (handed out in class on Tuesday 1/26) and picture are turned in by Thursday, 1/28.
Please note the changes in office hours for Professor Doogar (now T,R 2:00 to 3:00 pm) and the office hours (F, 11:30-12:30) for Keejae Hong, the course TA
1/26: Print and bring the Cablevision problem assigned for day 3 as well as the solutions to the two Handout problems for day 2 to class. Also check out the new link for information about case preparation, group problem solving and oral and written communication (on the main page). The powerpoint outline for day 3 is up. I need the background probeand pictures as well if you haven't already turned them in
For 1/21: Bring the probe and pictures. The powerpoint outline for day 2 is up.
For class on Tue 1/19, download and read the syllabus carefully and read the note "Learning With Cases" in the yellow case packet available from Stipes Publishing. The powerpoint outline for day 1 is now available on the Supplementary Materials page
