SYMPLICITY

What is Symplicity?
Symplicity is an online recruiting system that allows companies to post positions targeted at U of I College of Business students. Through the system you submit your resume to sign-up for interviews and company presentations, and you may also submit your resume in advance to employers participating in the Business Career Fairs. All College of Business students seeking internships and full-time employment are encouraged to register on Symplicity.

How do I sign up for Symplicity?
Attend one of the registration sessions.

I am majoring in something other than business. Can I get on Symplicity?
No. Symplicity is career management software for students in the College of Business only. Students outside of the College of Business who wish to view job listings are encouraged to utilize IConnect through The Career Center.

Not all the fields on my profile can be filled in. Is this okay?
Yes. Fill in only what you can; the rest will not hinder your interviewing chances.

What does it mean to be pre-selected?
Being pre-selected means that you have been chosen by an employer for an interview. The pre-select method is the preferred choice of employers to interview students.

How do I get pre-selected?
Getting pre-selected occurs in several ways. 1.) You submit your resume through Symplicity and the company selects you for an interview. 2.) You submit your resume to the company directly at the Career Fair, workshop, presentation, or an information session and they contact Business Career Services. 3.) The company identifies you through the online resume book in Symplicity.

A company asked me to sign up for an interview, but I am not registered on Symplicity. What do I do?
To secure an interview timeslot, you must be registered on Symplicity.

If I upload my resume to Symplicity, do I still need to apply to different positions?
Yes. You need to apply directly to the position listed on Symplicity. We also recommend that you attend company presentations and the Business Career Fair to increase your chances to obtain an interview. Companies take notice when you take an interest in them.

I can not find the specific room number for my interview on Symplicity. Where do I get that information?
The room numbers on Symplicity are only placeholders. Go to the interview location stated on Symplicity, and company name, and room assignment will be posted at each site. If you have questions, contact BCS at 333.2840.

Illini Union Company names and room numbers are posted at the Front Registration Desk (North Entrance) and by the elevators (South Entrance).
Levis Faculty Center  Proceed to the second floor and initial by your name on the company schedule in the waiting area.
Hawthorn Suites Company and room locations are posted by the Front Registration Desk.
Grainger Library Company names and room locations are posted on the 4th Floor.

On-Campus Recruiting (OCR)

I need to cancel my interview. How to I do that?
You can only cancel an interview online through Symplicity up to four days prior to the interview date. If you do not cancel within this timeframe, you need to go to your interview. Please see our guide "Policies and Procedures."

I have been invited to an interview during the same time as my class, what should I do?
Do not schedule interviews during class times, but if one should occur, you need to discuss this matter with your professor.

What is the timeline for accepting / declining full-time offers?
See employers' guidelines.

If I have accepted an offer of employment, what should I do about second interviews with other companies?
Notify the companies that selected you for second interviews that you have accepted an offer. You should do it as soon as possible. Emailing or calling is acceptable.

I just realized I missed (or will be late) to my interview. What should I do?
You must go to the interview site and apologize to the recruiter for missing the interview or being late. Please review “Policies and Procedures.”
