MS in Accy (tax) for Students from a UIUC Program other than the Accountancy BS/MS Program
The MS in Accy (tax) program accepts applications for admission once a year. The deadline is February 15 for summer and fall. Applications can be processed on-line through the Graduate College.
Background Requirements
UIUC students applying for admission from a program other than the Accountancy BS/MS program must complete the UIUC curriculum (i.e., ACCY 301, 302, 303, 304, and 405) and the equivalent of the College of Business core curriculum prior to enrolling in the MS in Accy (tax) program. Currently enrolled undergraduates should verify their graduation status with their College Undergraduate Office.
Admission Requirements
Admission is competitive. Applicants should have a minimum score in the 50th percentile on the verbal and quantitative portions of the GMAT, a 4.0 on the analytical writing portion of the GMAT, and a B (3.0) average for the last two years of course work (last 3 semesters if applying during senior undergraduate year).
Original transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate schools attended must accompany the application form along with three letters of recommendation.
For applicants whose native language is not English, two additional tests are required: (1) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and (2) Test of Spoken English (TSE). The Educational Testing Service offers both tests. It is recommended that applicants earn a score of at least 600 (paper-based) and 250 (computer-based) on the TOEFL and at least 50 on the TSE for admissions and financial aid. All non-English speakers must take the TSE, whether or not they have studied in the United States.
Call 1-800-GMAT-NOW to register for the GMAT or register on the web at http://www.gmac.com/ for additional information.

Degree Requirements
The course requirements for the MS in Accountancy with a specialization in taxation are:
| Hours | Courses |
| 4 | ACCY 551 - Corporate Income Taxation |
| 4 | ACCY 552 - Partnership Income Taxation |
| 4 | ACCY 556 - Tax Research |
| 8 | Accountancy electives |
| 8 | Electives (either accountancy or non-accountancy) |
| 4 | Non-accountancy electives |
| 32 | Total for MS in Accy (tax) |
The electives, both accountancy and non-accountancy, shall form a coherent program of study approved by a program advisor. At least 20 of the 32 total graduate hours must be in 500-level courses and at least 24 of the 32 total graduate hours must be earned while enrolled in the UIUC Graduate College.
Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (A = 4.0) to continue in, and graduate from, the MS in Accy with a specialization in taxation program. All courses applied toward the 32 graduate hours required for graduation must be taken for grade and not on a credit-no credit basis.
The structure and content of the UIUC undergraduate accountancy curriculum emphasizes concepts rather than procedures. Thus, to complete your preparation for the profession we recommend that you elect ACCY515: Auditing Standards (currently offered as ACCY593E) and ACCY 510: Financial Reporting Standards (currently offered as ACCY593D), as part of your MS in Accy (tax) program of study. These two courses emphasize procedures not covered in the undergraduate Accountancy core.
