Special Information for Foreign Applicants

Office of International Students Affairs

An international applicant must submit, with the completed University of Illinois International Application Form and the $60 application fee, official records of all secondary and post-secondary school course work completed or attempted.

The University of Illinois requires an applicant whose native language is not English to submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The Department of Accountancy requires a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper based) or 250 (computer based) for MAS/MSA Tax/PhD applicants and 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) for MSA applicants. International students who have been enrolled at an institution of higher education as a full-time (minimum 12 credits per semester) degree student for two years within the last five years in a country where English is the official language are exempt from the TOEFL requirement. The applicant must submit his/her results of the Test of Spoken English (TSE) for all programs except the MSA.

In order to arrange to take the TOEFL or TSE, the applicant should write directly to the nearest office of the United States Information Service or the nearest United States Consulate, or to the Educational Testing Service, Box 889, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, U.S.A.

NOTE: The Test of Spoken English (TSE) is not required for the MSA program.
