GRADUATE MINOR in Information Technology and Control
Accountants with expertise in how to manage companies more effectively with information technology, are increasingly being valued in corporations and the marketplace. The Information Technology and Control minor is designed to allow business students to acquire necessary knowledge and skills through courses in Enterprise Information Technology, Information & Data Management, Decision Support, Electronic Commerce, and IT Governance.
Prerequisites for the minor:
Students must be admitted to one of the MS programs in the College of Business or a graduate program in a related discipline approved by Department of Business Administration. Students from all graduate programs in Business (e.g., MS in Finance, MS in Accountancy, MS in Technology Management, etc.) are eligible to minor in this area.
Requirements:
The minor consists of selecting a set of three courses from the list of courses below:
- BADM 554 – Enterprise Database Management
BADM 555 – Information System Development & Management
BADM 556 – Electronic Commerce
BADM 557 – Decision Support and Knowledge Management
BADM 559 – IT Governance
Program Focus:
The minor in Information Technology and Control will focus on developing leaders in various business fields who understand (1) how to leverage information technology to create value for customers, external partners, and shareholders by designing better information systems to improve value-adding activities, business processes effectiveness, and governance/controls; (2) how managers can assess the strategic, financial, and economic benefits of investing in advanced information systems and innovative technologies, and (3) how to leverage enterprise information technology assets to enhance all business functions and be effective in delivering value and services. The minor will provide not only a strong foundation in Information Systems/Information Technology area but could be tailored to fit the specific career needs of our students.
Admission to the minor:
Students will make written application to the Department of Business Administration. If admitted, the student will be notified along with the student’s graduate program director and adviser by email. The application form includes approval from the student’s academic advisor and the director of the graduate program to which the student is already admitted or enrolled. The Department of Business Administration’s Director of Graduate Programs will be responsible for overseeing the graduate minor admission process.

Please check the availability of the courses listed with the Department of Business Administration during the registration period each semester. This Graduate Minor in Information Technology and Control has been approved by the College of Business. (UIUC approval is pending.)
