Master of Accounting Science
Program Director: Prof. John Chandler (333-4539; chandlej@uiuc.edu)
The Master of Accounting Science (MAS) program is a one-year program for students with an undergraduate background in accounting. The program is for students interested in careers in all facets of accountancy, including both public and non-public practices. The program provides an opportunity to obtain a more comprehensive foundation in accounting and, through electives, advanced knowledge in areas such as finance, taxation, and information systems.
The Illinois tradition of excellence in graduate accountancy education began with the awarding of the department’s first master’s degree in 1922 and its first Ph.D. in 1939. One of the largest suppliers of leaders of the accountancy profession, Illinois boasts more partners in the Big-Four CPA firms than any other academic institution.
According to recent surveys by U.S. News & World Report and the Public Accounting Report, the Department of Accountancy at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign consistently ranks among the top accountancy departments in the United States.
The Department of Accountancy is an innovator. As a graduate student in the Department of Accountancy and College of Business, you will take courses that are part of a dynamic curriculum. Our distinguished faculty are world-renowned, with research expertise that is unrivaled. At Illinois, you learn from the best because the best faculty are in our classrooms.
